Cutting Edge: Homeless in despair

We re-visit the story of Lungile Mdletshe from KwaZulu-Natal, a disabled young person that has lived in a dilapidated house almost all her life.

When eThekwini Municipality came up with a project to build the poor better houses, she was very excited. However, she was made to wait for it for more than three years. She was later built a house which was not suitable for her disability, and she could not access it.

When our team raised the matter with the authorities, municipal officials came and promised to build her a house within a month. Nothing happened.

The efforts to build Lungile a proper house were also blocked by politics in the community and the house was demolished by unknown people more than three times.

Finally the struggle pays off…..
