Varsities to train students for government jobs

Hyderabad: Campuses of universities in the State will soon bustle with competitive exam coaching. Conventional universities – Osmania University (OU), Kakatiya University (KU), Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University and Satavahana University, will shortly launch free coaching for various government jobs, on their respective campuses.

The move comes as Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy recently directed Vice Chancellors of the State universities to impart training to students for government jobs as the State government was planning to announce recruitment in various departments. The officials were also informed that the government was ready to extend necessary grants to the universities.

The OU administration has already drawn elaborate plans to launch its own Civil Services Academy to train students for the union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services examination, Staff Selection Commission, Railway Recruitment Board and other bank examinations besides for Telangana State Public Service Commission’s examinations, free of cost. “We have identified faculty to train students for recruitment examinations and also put necessary infrastructure in place. The coaching programme will shortly commence after launch by the Education Minister,” an OU official said.

Similarly, KU in Warangal is preparing a facility on the campus that can accommodate 200 students for training. Students will be provided coaching for the State government Group-I, II, III and IV jobs besides for the posts in Police Department. “Depending on the number of applications, students will be trained in batches. Apart from university faculty, experts in the respective fields will also be roped in to coach students,” a KU official said.

The Satavahana University in Karimnagar has decided to extend the coaching programme to all its campus students free of cost and officials have sought necessary funding from the Telangana State Council of Higher Education. “We will be providing free coaching for all the competitive recruitment examinations. The coaching will be open for all the students on the campus without any screening test. In future, if we commence intensive coaching, a screening test might be conducted,” an official said.
